INSTALLATION
Q. Is the BASIC difficult to install?
A. No. Since this toilet and its vent system are very light, it is very easy to move it around to the desired location and then install the vent through the roof or wall. The installation process can be followed in the Owner’s Manual.
Q. Can the vent pipe go out through the wall?
A. Yes. By adding a 90 degree vent piece, it is possible to route the vent out through the side of the house as well as going straight up through the roof.
Q. How much clearance does it need from the wall?
A. The BASIC needs a minimum of 3” from the wall.

OPERATION
Q. How is the BASIC different from a regular composting toilet?
A. The BASIC model is a separating and drying composting toilet, which means that it separates the faeces and the urine. It also dries the waste and kills the bacteria inside the waste box. By separating the waste and liquid waste, there will be no foul odor.
Q. How is BASIC different from SR?
A. Both are waterless toilets, but the SR uses fuel to incinerate the waste, whereas the BASIC is a separating drying composting toilet.
Q. How does the separation process work?
A. The toilet is equipped with a liquid hose that guides the liquid waste out through the rear of the unit from the toilet bowl. It is therefore necessary for all users to sit on the toilet when using it. The liquid hose can be connected to a domestic wastewater system, a drain pit, or a container (for reuse as a garden fertilizer).
Q. How does the heating process work?
A. The toilet has a heating plate located underneath the waste box. The heat spreads evenly out along the bottom and the sides of the box, which results in drying any waste inside the box.
Q. What is special with the environmental bags and boxes?
A. The bags and boxes are specially made so that they decompose along with the waste.
Q. Is there any unpleasant odor?
A. No. Due to the separation and heating process, along with a fan that ensures a steady airflow, there is no bad odor.
Q. Do I have to exchange the waste box and the waste bag every time I want to compost the waste?
A. No. Most of the time you only have to take the waste bag out and replace it with a new bag. However, you can also change the box if needed.

Q. Can the liquid waste be used as a fertilizer?
A. Yes, by mixing 8 parts of water with 1 part of liquid waste.
Q. Do I need to add anything to the box after usage?
A. No, but adding a little sawdust to the box will speed up the composting process.
Q. Does it operate in colder climates?
A. Yes. Make sure the liquid waste hose is sloped the entire length. One can also insulate the hose to ensure that it won’t freeze up.
Q. How often should the fan be on?
A. The fan should be running at all times. If it won’t be used for a longer time, empty the waste box or bag before turning off the fan.

Q. How often does the box need to be emptied?
A. On average (2 adults + 2 children), the box needs to be replaced approximately once every 3-4 weeks.
Q. What needs to be done when the waste box is full?
A. Add some sawdust or soil to the box or bag before closing. Then simply add the biodegradable box or bag to a composting pile and leave it for a few months.
Q. How can I get rid of flies?
A. If the fan has been turned off for a longer of time, there could be some flies inside the waste box. You will then need to exchange the waste box and clean the toilet thoroughly. Spray the toilet with insect spray and ensure the fan is working properly before you start to use the toilet again.
